I produce weekly vlogs that showcase my everyday life (as a former PhD student and current Assistant Professor). These videos follow genre conventions of lifestyle vlogs by documenting mundane tasks such as grocery shopping, getting ready for the day, planning out weekly schedules, etc. However, these videos also provide me with a space to "think out loud" about my in-progress research, as demonstrated at 12:30 and 27:00 in this video and foster a digital community. Moreover, vlogging my life equips me with an invaluable insider perspective as I analyze and advocate for vlogs as embodied writing practices in my research.
In addition to vlogs, I also produce instructional videos to guide my viewers through common challenges of academia, especially related to graduate school. This video walks through the process of writing a dissertation chapter, from brainstorming, to outlining, to writing, to revising. With a paid partnership from Scrintal, I also discuss some helpful digital technologies for maximizing productivity and catering to more visual learning styles.
